Craniosacral Therapy in London

Craniosacral therapy is a treatment that taps into the craniosacral system through a series of light holds and gentle manipulations. Although the name sounds a little intimidating and scientific, craniosacral therapy is known as a “subtle” therapy. It is ultra-light and safe — and anyone can use it.

The craniosacral system is made up of membranes and cerebrospinal fluids that cushion the brain and spinal cord. This fluid protects the most delicate and fragile parts of the body and so is essential to the health of your body and mind. Craniosacral therapy is unique in that it is designed to target the craniosacral system.

In craniosacral therapy, the practitioner applies a light pressure along the spine, skull and fascia to relieve the nerve passages and allow the cerebrospinal fluid to flow uninhibited through the body. This gentle pressure and circulation of fluid treats a range of issues and boosts overall health and wellbeing.

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Insomnia, fatigue and sleep deprivation
  • Sinus infections
  • Immunity disorders
  • Neck and back pain
  • Trauma recovery
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
  • Autism
  • Brain injury
  • Issues with the central nervous system
  • Fibromyalgia

Because it’s such a gentle therapy, craniosacral therapy is suitable for babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly.

What to Expect From a Craniosacral Therapy Session?

Your craniosacral therapy with your therapist gently placing their hands on your body to get a sense of your health. By sensing the movement and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid, the therapist can detect any restrictions or imbalances within the body.

After this initial consultation, the therapist will use their hands to alleviate the blockages in your body and manipulate the cerebrospinal fluid and membranes. Throughout the session, different pressures will be used to help disperse blocked and stagnant fluid. The treatment shouldn’t cause any pain, although you may feel tingling sensations or mild discomfort at points. If you experience any sharp pain, let your therapist know as soon as possible.

Craniosacral therapy is relaxing and rejuvenating and will leave you feeling utterly revitalised. But every experience is different.  Some people leave a session feeling incredibly calm while others may experience a surge of energy and vitality.
