Colonic Irrigation in London

Are you feeling tired, lethargic and bogged down? It may be time for a colonic.  Colonic therapy, also known as colonic irrigation, is a treatment that safely flushes out waste from the bowel using water. It may sound slightly unpleasant, but some form of colonic therapy has been used in almost all ancient societies as a holistic way of boosting health, happiness and wellbeing.

Sometimes referred to as “inner cleansing”, colonic therapy is designed to cleanse your bowel, stimulate your digestive system and rehydrate your body. Whether you’re suffering from IBS or are simply looking to revive your body and mind, a colonic may be just the ticket.

What Are the Benefits of Colonic Irrigation?

Butterflies in the stomach when you’re in love; a gut feeling that warns you of danger — our gut is deeply connected to our mental, emotional and physical health. By actively stimulating the digestive system, colonic irrigation offers a range of far-reaching benefits:

  • Supports the immune system
  • Stimulates bile production
  • Cultivates a happy and safe environment for friendly bacteria
  • Increases the number of nutrients absorbed
  • Aids the removal of waste
  • Boosts the functionality of the bowel
  • Increases energy
  • Improves skin tone and texture

For some, it will also aid with digestive problems, lethargy and listlessness, while for others, it will boost mental clarity, ease stress and anxiety and reignite their focus in life.

What to Expect from a Colonic Irrigation Session

More than a few people have been put off of this therapy for fear of the unknown — and we don’t blame them. On the surface, colonic therapy does appear to be quite uncomfortable, but the reality of the experience is completely different.

Before your colonic, there are a few things you will need to do to prepare for the therapy. You want to be hydrated but should steer clear of overly sugary drinks and alcohol. The emptier your stomach, the comfier you'll be, so keep your meals light before your appointment.

Your appointment will begin with an initial consultation with your therapist, where you’ll discuss your symptoms, what you hope to achieve with your therapy and your medical history. This is an integral step in your therapy, so it’s vital to be open about any concerns or medically relevant information. Once your therapist feels that they have everything they need, they will guide you through the process and take some time to explain what will happen during the therapy. You will then be asked to get changed into a gown and lie down on the table.

Once you’re comfortable, your therapist will insert the tube into the colon and water will slowly be pushed through. The water will be at the same temperature as your body so that it's as soothing and comfortable as possible. This won’t hurt, but you may feel a sudden feeling of fullness in your stomach and colon when the water enters your body. But as the water empties, many people claim to feel a deep sense of relaxation and peace. Your therapist may also gently massage the abdominal muscles to dislodge any trapped waste and stimulate the muscles in the colon. Your colonic will last around 45 minutes.

There’s no need to take any recovery time after your therapy, although you may find that you need to empty your bowels more regularly after your session to rid your body of any remaining waste or water.

In the days following your treatment, you may find that you don’t need to go to the toilet at all — this is completely natural and is simply the result of cleansing your bowels. To get things flowing, avoid heavy foods and opt for easy-to-digest alternatives.

Some people claim to feel energised and alert after treatment, while others can feel a little drained. Again, this is nothing to worry about, as everyone responds differently to the treatment. If you’re concerned about how you’re feeling, speak to your therapist — they'll be happy to address your concerns and put your mind at ease.
